ONE YEAR

I think about you each and every day
Since we last said goodbye
And I filled a river full of tears
We had been together for almost 42 years.
How could I stand and watch to see your pain
The sum of all my fears?
We have walked hand in hand through sun and rain
Laughing and crying as our time was marked in the journey of life.
One year, 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days
The numbers increase but the time remains the same.
I look out for you in all our favourite places
Seeing friends and strangers with that beautiful Carol smile on their faces.
I could walk the streets in Bangor
Then sit on our special chair
And just because I cannot see you
Doesn't mean to say you're not there.
Time is a great healer a lot of folks have said
Maybe I should just get used to being without you instead?
But how can I go on without you
When idolise is all I can do
Of your Hope, Faith, and Love
All of these gifts given especially to you.
To visit all the places that we were in last May
I just need to close my eyes and be with you every single day
Feeling the warmth of your presence
As I remember our togetherness.

RED is the colour of my Carols warm coat
It hangs there gently behind the door
Not been worn for some time
Wish I could wear it and feel her glow.
BLUE is the colour of my Carols eyes
All sparkly and starting all her smiles.
Wish I could see them and hold her gaze for miles.
WHITE is the colour of my Carols favourite handbag
Can you give it a clean for me to make it new?
Wish I could I'd say just to hear your laugh.
PINK is the colour of my Carols birthday top
Just to make me wink and give her the nod.
GOLD is the colour of my Carols wedding band
Worn every day from morn till night
Wish I could hold it in my right hand.
SILVER is the colour of my Carols necklace
Borrowed from Susan but held it for keeps
As it shines on her face
Wish I could fasten it around her neck.
All these COLOURS my Carol remind me of you
Wish I could see them every day on you xx
