Through my involvement with various Jazz festivals I had the privelege of introducing Humph onstage and I was very lucky to be able to chat to him backstage on a few occassions. He was also the Duke Ellington Society's Hon President and my greatest thrill, as a contributer to the Society's magazine, was when he signed his latest book,..... "To George, I read you too... (every quarter in the magazine ) !! .... He was a lovely man and I feel very very priveleged to have known him, albeit in such a small way. He'll be a very welcome addition in the Great Jazz Band up in Heaven.

Hi
Humph completly changed my life when he agreed to be a special guest on my debut harmonica album " Building Dreams" in 1996.
The photo shows Humph and myself outside of my Studio on the day he overdubbed the trumpet on 4 of the 11 tracks on the CD.
His playing on " My Romance, for example, was beautiful.
RIP Humph
You were a brilliant man.

I've been a lover of Traditional jazz for a loing time, but never heard Humph's band until recently when I came across My Gal Sal. What a sound and what a trumpet solo. Not only were you a master musician you were a master comic too.

You'll be sorely missed.

How sad I was to hear of your passing Humph. When I was a teenager I regularly saw you perform at various jazz clubs. What a wonderful musician you were.
Over the last years you have given me such laughter on Radio 4 with "I Am Sorry I Haven't A Clue". Your comments about the delightful Samantha, your leadership of the team. One of the funniest programmes on Radio 4 and I have been an ardent listener for years.

I do not see how they can replace you dear Humph, you made the show your very own. I know if it does continue it will never be quite the same.

Thank you for the music, thank you for the laughter. Now rock them in Heaven. God bless Humph.

It is a great shame such a true gentleman of showbusiness has passed. I worked with Humph on April 11th at the Civic hall in Bedworth. A fantastic concert and a true Legend. He will be sorely missed.

Sunday mornings will just not be the same. Listening to 'I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue' whilst preparing Sunday lunch was something to always look forward to. Whilst not being a big lover of Jazz I always recognised Humphrery's musical talents. What joy this man bought to millions of people! Thank you Humphrey...

Not noted as a comedian, yet he was a comic genius! To be able to say some of the smuttiest innuendos heard on radio, with pure innocense was one thing, but his timing was immaculate.

Also, to say he was one of the greats of British Jazz would not be overstating the fact. His BBC Radio 2 programme was a highlight of evening listening.

To say he will be missed is an understatement, radio is poorer for his loss, but rich because of his contributions.

A sad, sad loss of one of the greats of his era. His dead-pan delivery and laconic style will be sadly missed.
