I feel so sad that Dame Vera has passed away. I was born in 1962 and all of my life -- since I can remember -- she's been part of it. Whether watching the Vera Lynn Show when I was around 7 years old in Scotland, to watching her in on the Irish Rovers Show in Canada in the 1970s, to watching her on the steps of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa singing "Abide with Me" on Remembrance Day around 1980, to seeing her in Vancouver in the 1990s appearing on cross-Canada CBC television answering questions from viewers, Dame Vera has always been part of my life. The sound of her voice with the orchestra and the fact that she seemed such an amazingly nice and kind person made me her biggest fan. I'll miss her a lot. My thoughts are with her daughter, Virginia and her family. I remember talking with Dame Vera's husband, Harry in Ottawa and he was the nicest man ever: he was going to let me meet Dame Vera, but she was having an afternoon nap! I missed out big time that day. RIP Dame Vera: you are loved by millions, including myself. David Scott, Victoria, BC
