A Sonnet for Kath

Sweet Kath, such a rose - and barely a thorn,
With perennial love you rooted for us;
As we, your friends, rooted for you – now left to mourn
This dreadful, inexplicable loss.
Although those beloved roots slipped between cracks,
Who can forget the Rock that holds them tight?
As you, and he, gave life to Rory and to Jack;
The sight, the sound, the bloom of you will always stay bright.
From Fallowfield as far as Donegal
A rosy scent carried, on the wind that blew;
And such to believe it's impossible
That Sonnet Fifty Four wasn’t written for you:
‘And so of you, beauteous and lovely youth,
When that shall fade, my verse distills your truth.’ (last two lines from Shakespeare's sonnet 54)
