What a wonderfully kind, thoughtful and gentle man.
Robert believed in me - and my ability to be the best teacher I could be - at a time when I didn't truly believe it myself. He saw me through some hard times, always showing lovely empathy and was so generous with his time.
Robert taught me that RE - and life itself - should be experiential, fun and shared with others. His ability to inspire imagination and creativity has had such an impact on the way I teach and I feel truly blessed to have known him.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Sorry to hear this sad news. I was in Robert’s RE classes in 2001 as part of my primary teaching training. It was an honour and a privilege to have him as part of my studies - encouraging us to be creative and child- centred. I will always remember the flowers, the hot cross and chicks he brought in and our mini bus trips to Liverpool and Manchester! My thoughts are with his family and friends xxx

A lovely lecturer during my time at TASC 2000-2004. I remember the chicks that Robert brought in to the Mary Hallaway Lecture theatre and the lovely Asian sweets to share with the students. Top gent.

Robert was one of the kindest, most generous and encouraging of gentlemen! He was my RE tutor on my degree course back in 1999-2003 - he was a true inspiration! I have tried to emulate his wonderful teaching methods, in the 16 years since - his lessons were fantastic - we were all gripped as soon as Robert walked into a room, with his arms full of boxes and interesting-looking resources - often taking a few journeys to bring everything from his car!! Once he produced a box of chicks in a lecture theatre - we were all blown away and we were totally gripped!! My sincere condolences to Robert’s family - I do know he had a daughter (at least) because he once overheard a conversation I was having with a friend, as we travelled via minibus to a Sikh temple, (Roberts drove us there) and I was worrying about my young teenager daughter’s piercing - Robert so wisely interjected to advise us not to “worry about the small stuff” saying that there were worse things to worry about potentially and how important it was to not jeopardise a parent/child relationship over relatively small issues! Such wisdom and so true!!! I will always be grateful to Robert for his positive and encouraging feedback on any assignments and for his AAAAA++++++ grades he would award essays - he was truly the kindest man!!!!!! RIP Robert - you will be remembered so fondly for the rest of my days!!! Julie Matthews (T.A.S.C ) 1999-2003
