Thank you Gilbert for being our rowing coach, our friend and for joining us in making such wonderful memories over the years. Thank you for all the fun and laughter along the way. You truly believed in us and trained us into champions! You love a win! Rest in peace Gilbert, it’s never going to be the same without seeing you at the harbour. Your memory will live on at Paignton Rowing Club forever. Xx

What a loss! Gilbert was a true gentleman. He gave so much of his time to help others. We were only a novice crew but he put his heart and soul into our training: videoing racing starts, buying crew uniforms, hot soup on cold mornings, stern words for slackers, hilarious anecdotes, meetings with cakes to watch videos of the pros. You will be missed, Gilbert xx

RIP Gilbert. Such a great loss. Always be in my thoughts with fond memories of turning us from a raggetty crew into champions. Cold Winter mornings wading in freezing rivers to train finished off with a supply of hot soup and rolls from you. Your face when we won the South Coast Championship and knowing you were going to tell us off for winning the heat and putting too much into that race, but by the skin of our teeth we pulled through to win and I had never seen you beam so much! Telling us to "Drive with our legs" when we thought we had nothing left in the tank, for supporting us and believing in us. I will miss you, a true legend, my coach, my friend xxx

I will be forever endebted to Gilbert for letting me marry his daughter Marita and I couldn't have wished for a better father in law. He was a true gentleman and a great dad, who is now a legend that will wander through the emotions of his dearest hearts for ever. Rich
