Helen really was one of a kind. I first met her around five years ago when she was working in adult safeguarding and I was working for a homelessness charity. I immediately recognised a fellow champion of social justice and we formed a strong alliance over the next few years. I learnt so much from Helen; about how to be a better professional but, more importantly, about how to be a better person. She did so much to champion the rights of the marginalised and was a truly beautiful spirit. I still can’t believe she’s gone but I am thankful every day the world had her for the time that it did. Rest well, Helen. We love you x

I am going to miss Helen so, so much. I rarely got to see her but she was part of my life for almost 30 years and a very beloved friend. My heart hurts for the loss that her family are feeling. Loving thoughts are with you.

Being Ellie's step-mum was something I grew into gradually and felt honoured when Ellie eventually bestowed the title upon me. Over the last couple of years, I was so bowled over by Helen's generous determination that I maintain a close relationship with Ellie, despite splitting up with her dad. We agreed on so many aspects of teenage rearing, and Helen said many times 'it takes a village to raise a child'. I am deeply saddened that I'm now unable to deepen the connection I felt growing between us through our shared love of Eloise. Her generosity and open heartedness will now live on in the love and care I can offer Ellie throughout her life. It is love which grows us and love that we leave behind us when we go. x
