We are sorry to hear this news late - and even more sorry to hear that it’s true. David Laws was the most compassionate clinician we had the privilege to meet. He saved our daughter, Delphine’s sight in such an extraordinary manner. All the while calm and supportive. We will simply never forget him.

I can’t quite believe what I have just seen. My thought go out to his family.
Mr Laws did my cataracts in Feb and early March. What a lovely man he was putting me at my ease all the time. On finding out that my late husband was a professional musician he told me how when he was younger he asked Debbie Harry to his 21st birthday party but she didn’t turn up he said.
When I went back for my check up in late July I took him a mug with a picture of Debbi Harry on it he was thrilled. In Early August I had a thank you letter from him saying how he loved the mug and was actually drinking out if it as he dictated his letters.
A truly lovely and kind man and I will never forget him.

Deepest sympathy to Kath and Family on the sudden death of their beloved David. I was privileged to meet David and Kath on an overseas cycling trip in February of this year. In that short time David made a deep impression on me as a caring ,kind and compassionate person. He was great company with a wide variety of interests and keen sense of humor.
David was a special person

Thinking of all family and friends.
My Laws was not only a wonderful ophthalmologist but a truly remarkable man. He has been seeing my son for the last 16 years or so for his rare disease. My youngest daughter also has a rare condition and Mr Laws was going to get his students to research so much about both conditions (fibrous dysplasia and Russell silver syndrome) due to them being so rare not many drs in the uk know about them.

Absolutely shocked and devastated when my daughter and I heard the news today we truly are heartbroken he has looked after my daughter for just over 21 years and he was the only person that would operate on my very preterm baby if it wasn't for him she would not have had any sight he truly saved her ! He was always so kind and caring he will really be missed by us , my heart goes out to his family colleagues friends and patients x

Mr Laws not only operated on our daughter at the age of seven very successfully, but also helped my mother with her deteriorating eyesight in her latter years. He inspired us with confidence and was always an exceptionally kind gentleman. Our deepest sympathies to his family.
