Grandad had the most beautiful garden, immaculate and full of colourful flowers. He would pick a small bunch for my Nain Rose and they would be displayed in the centre of the round breakfast/dining table. I remember shopping one time in Holywell with Grandad. We were passing the florist and I asked when the last time he bought nain flowers. He couldn't remember. He believed in putting the hard work in and grew her favourites instead. I suggested he buy her some as a treat and he did after a little convincing. Upon our return, he so awkwardly gave nain the flowers. I'd have loved to have seen him propose to her to be married. He had a romantic side but put on the spot or if other people were around, he would feel uncomfortable. Nain was surprised by Grandad bringing her a gift from the shopping trip. It made her smile. He always stuck to a shopping list, so there were never any surprises. If Nain was out, you could guarantee she would make the most of the trip and bring home bags full of things.

They were a perfect match.

Pink carnations were my Nain's most favourite.
