Tim’s life not only made but will continue to make a difference to those that live on. His cheerfulness in the face of his illness; that fact that he was so kind and humorous because, and not in spite of, his social and political concerns; and his wide-eyed enthusiasm for creative practice have all left their mark on me and on others. I made small intermittent contributions to the supervision of his doctoral research at Lancaster University, in particular enjoying conversations with him on notions of ‘the gift’. Tim himself was, and is, a gift.

Tim was a much loved first year tutor in Theatre Studies at Lancaster University. Working with him I appreciated his great dedication, perceptiveness, knowledge, humour and generosity in all his teaching, including supervisions of practical work. I was so pleased to see him go into politics in Liverpool later, as he clearly had so much to give to his constituency and the wider city. He is fondly remembered by Theatre staff and students who got to work with him. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

I met Tim in 2005, and feel so lucky to have crossed paths with such a remarkable human. Tim was everything I hope to be in life: kind, committed, funny, and deeply compassionate. Though I am so sad for the world's loss with his death, I have to say I still smile whenever I think of him or see a photo. He had that effect, and always will. We love you and miss you, Tim.
