I can't believe you're gone but I know I'll see you again, you're a force of Nature mate, never met anyone with energy and enthusiasm like yours. I don't think I ever witnessed you being down about anything, you were undefeatable and your sense of humour never failed. Have a safe journey, find a peaceful place, you will be missed.

I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Johnny in Newcastle around the turn of the century(!) when I was studying/pretending to be an artist. Meanwhile here was the real deal; always inspired, excitable and relentless in pursuit of his ‘Red City’ and getting to a deeper meaning of things. But never at the expense of being kind and empathic. Hanging out with him was always a good time. And years later he still sent me uplifting and supportive messages over social media. A great guy who will be very sadly missed. RIP Johnny.

Jonny, you were a real inspiration. My first real friend when I came to the North East and the best and most interesting art collaborator. I've ever had. You'll be sorely missed.

This is what you did: You loved the earth and the sun and all the animals, despised riches, gave alms to everyone that asked, you stood up for the stupid and the crazy and your very flesh was a great poem. I still love you very deeply

Ah Johnny, we've not seen each other for over twenty odd years but we caught up plenty of times on FB, threatening to meet up in person, but we never did.
I'll never forget how you used to practically live on our sofa in Bow Street, good times in the Arena and the Hump, "I know what I'm doing".
Jack Straaaawwwwww.
We'll miss you
Love Christine and Phil x

You always had the privilege of owning yourself. Warm hearted, generous to a fault, with a rare and exemplary capacity to share your joy with others! I feel proud to be able to say you were my friend

Johnny I remember sitting with you as you worked on one of your poems ;- its intricacy
and detail were incredible, even though the poem was just a few lines,..
and you’d been working on it for weeks .. - in a freezing cold dark drab London flat in Streatham Circa 1993 your eyes were glowing like coals under the candle light, ... now they’ve become bright stars that oscillate , punctuate , orchestrate , navigate ... capsulating the magnetic sempiternal bubble memory of the cosmos somewhere high up there, high up in the Heavenly realms, ...
