This week I lost not only an uncle, but a best friend.

A person who was a constant throughout my life, someone who I looked up to in awe from an early stage, someone who took me to my first ever match and introduced me to the magic of football, someone who I could always count on, and someone who supported me through the toughest parts of my life whilst also giving me that reassuring pat on the back.

My life is going to be a lot different without you. There’s now a massive feeling of emptiness, I’m going to miss our ritual Saturday morning phone calls to discuss football, bets and your dream team.
I’m going to miss asking you to come to the matches, I’m definitely going to miss those 4ish weeks we spend together every 2years to cheer on England and as a family we’re all going to miss you not being with us at Christmas.

Colin Byrne - my uncle, my friend and my hero!

RIP Col, you were a really good lad – so easy going. I never seen you lose your temper and you never had a bad word to say about anyone. You’ll be sorely missed mate - it was a pleasure to have known you. Ian
