Published 24/07/2021
If there is anything good to come out of this last year and a half, it’s that it has taught us that there are so many different ways that we can stay in touch with our loved ones. At a time when we were forced to stay apart, we took to our phones and our laptops in order to keep conversations going. But did we really learn to listen to each other? This year the Samaritans are encouraging people to not only stay in touch, but to become better listeners.

What happens to my digital data when I die?
Published 22/07/2021
Previously on our blog we have answered the question ‘What happens to my social media after I die?’, but this only answers part of our digital data dilemma. What about everything that you store on your phone or in the ever mysterious ‘cloud’? We all fill our phones with important memories in the form of photos, videos, and messages, and some of us are even savvy enough to back it all up in the cloud, but what good is all that if you pass away and nobody can get access to any of it?

Can I leave leave money or property to my pet when I die?
Published 15/07/2021
One of the final demonstrations of love that we can make as we depart this life is to leave money, property or even treasured possessions to our loved ones in a Will. But what if that loved one is a pet? We’ve talked before in our blogs about how a beloved pet can be as much a part of the family as any human, and we have even answered the question ‘Can I have a funeral for my pet?’, but can we actually leave them something in our Will? The short answer, unfortunately, is no. In the context of your Will, a pet is considered property, and as such you can not leave a sum of money or anything else directly to your pet. However, there is a way around this and that is to name a person to leave the money in trust. For example if your pet is going to live with and be looked after by your spouse when you die, then you can leave a sum of money to that person with the instruction that it is to be used to care for your pet. You can even leave a Letter of Wishes that more closely describes how you want the pet to be cared for and what the money can be spent on.

Could it be? Is 'freedom' finally here for those of us living in England? On Monday 5th July, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced plans to move to Step 4 of England's roadmap out of Coronavirus restrictions - originally scheduled for 21st June but pushed back for 4 weeks due to concerns about the Delta variant of Covid which has been sweeping across the UK since spring. But what rules are changing? Are they all being completely removed or will some be remaining going forward. My aim is to make today's blog a one-stop shop for all the information you need regarding the planned rule changed in England on July 19th.
