It’s been over two weeks since the ceremony to celebrate Eileen’s life, and today I received a copy of Eileen’s Order of Service from her lovely daughter Gillian, who I met while on vacation to Scotland with my husband in 1993. I enjoyed reading this beautiful tribute and feel a sense of peace knowing that my dear friend is now at rest. I first met Eileen in January 1960 on our first day at the College of Commerce in Aberdeen, where we had a fun year learning how to become shorthand typists! She was so much fun to be with and a beautiful girl inside & out. Some years later, I was Maid of Honour at her wedding ceremony to Richard at King’s College Chapel and we continued to be best friends. I emigrated to Canada in 1967 and we had to communicate by snail-mail. Latterly of course email was so much better and my last email from Eileen was on December 29, 2019, the day after her 77th birthday, which is fairly remarkable considering the poor health she endured all of her life. I always received a birthday wish from Eileen every December 3rd … what a good memory she had! I have so many happy memories of Eileen and will never forget our special friendship. With Love ... to her adoring family from Lorraine Duncan Steele.
