In Memory Donations

You need only type 'in memory donations' into a search engine or watch the ad breaks on daytime TV to see charities are desperate for them. During lockdowns, in memory donations became one of the main revenue streams for many charities, with most of their fundraising events cancelled. 'Revenue stream' sounds a little cold when we are thinking about the loss of loved ones, but with charities facing huge losses, every source of income really mattered, pushing in memory donations to the top of their fundraising agendas.

How do I set up Online Donations?

There are a number of ways you can offer online donations from a variety of companies. At funeral-notices.co.uk we believe in making the donation process simple, offering online donations to up to five charities on every notice we publish. Keeping the notice and the donations together is a great way to save both you, the Funeral Director, time and money and your families time and money in setting their own funding pages up. It also keeps it really simple for families, allowing them to share both the funeral notice and the donation collection facility at the same time with the people that matter to them.

To support you in offering online donations to every family you make arrangements for, we are currently offering free online notices. Donations may be added into these notices at the point of booking. Online donations are available on all newspaper notices too.

Is it safe to make Donations Online?

Yes. Donating on notices on funeral-notices.co.uk is completely safe. Our donation partners Donatis manage and process all online payments through their safe payment system. Donatis already work with many UK Funeral Directors to provide them with a cashless donation process so their knowledge of the industry is second to none.

Not only are our online donations safe, they are also simple and efficient; providing one place to collect money in memory with very little work from yourselves. Once the notice is booked, the collection facility remains live for five weeks after which time you will receive a list of who has donated as well as confirmation the money has been transferred to the charity. Donatis send the charity the donation totals plus Gift Aid information that allows the charities to claim an additional 25p for every £1 donated.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid allows charities to collect an additional 25% on top of any donations made by a UK taxpayer. It's really easy to add Gift Aid to donations, simply a tick box to agree you pay tax in the UK and Donatis will do all the rest, providing charities with all they need to claim the money. Charities love Gift Aid. Sadly without Funeral Directors getting consent and personal information from people who choose to donate in a collection box at a service, it is not possible to add Gift Aid to donations made this way making online donations the preferred option of many charities.

How do I get started?

Have a read of our guide on booking free online notices here. Once you have the name and donation information from the family, you can create a free notice and include online donations. It's a really simple process, with the majority of charities stored in our system, you need only begin typing the name of the charity.

Our booking system allows you to input if the collection is to be sent to a specific ward or local area, and even allows collections for non registered charities, events, businesses or fundraising groups.

If you wish to include an online collection in a notice booked to appear in a newspaper, just follow the same simple process. As soon as the notice is published online families can start making donations.

There are a few things you can do to help your families get the most from their online donation collections, such as amending the wording in the notice to help direct people to donate online and adding online donation information on the the Order of Service.
