Such a lovely, kind & caring person who it has been a privilege to work alongside for many years. You were not only a work colleague but a good friend too, always willing to listen & help where you could. You will be sadly missed by so many people, you were taken far too soon dear friend.

Sonia was my friend at school. One of my closest friends along with Elaine, we were a trio. I sat next to Sonia in junior school and the first few years of secondary school. When she forgot her glasses I helped her by telling her what the teacher had written on the board. She helped me with maths. Sonia taught me how to play chess and patiently waited for me to have my turn while I deliberated my next move. Sonia always won, but she won with grace and magnanimity. Sonia’s mum died when Sonia was about 10 years old. I comforted her as best as a 10 year old could do. I remember that she was very brave. She never cried in front of anyone. From about the 4th year at school we went in separate directions, following our own paths of life. Sonia always wanted to be an RE teacher. I understand she became a very good one.
I moved away from the area and we lost touch. When I came back to live in Burton I wondered if Sonia lived in the same house. She did. I always intended to pop round to see her. But I didn’t. I wished I had because now I never can. I don’t understand why good people die young. I don’t understand why we lose touch with people we were once so close to and I don’t understand why we don’t reach out and reconnect with long lost friends. I hope Sonia is at peace and reunited with her parents. Rest in peace Sonia, Rest in Peace.
