The connection between our families has been maintained since Daniel and Gwenllian (John) James migrated in 1886. Gwenliaan was Margaret's great aunt. Our Grandfather William Hopkin James was born in March 1887, 5 months after their arrival in
Australia. Daniel James wrote copious letters to all the extended family in Wales during his lifetime and William Hopkin James spent 3 months visiting relatives after WW1. He made stayed many times with Aunty Marged, Margaret's randmother, and got to know her mother well. The soldier from Australia made an impact on the relatives of the Swansea valley, a lasting friendship with Dosia, Margaret's mother, and maintained contact with them between the wars. Daniel James himself returned to Wales in both 1925 and in 1936. After the War one of the James relatives came to Australia and the decision was made that our mother, Bette, would got 'home' with him. Mum spent a year in Wales, UK, Europe and USA and was very fond of Margaret's mother, Dosia and her husband Will Morgan. I remember a Christmas gift arriving in 1959 from Margaret and Dosia that caused much excitement - my Welsh doll still sits on my chest of drawers. Mum visited Wales again in 1978 ant it was at this time that she and Margaret became 'almost sisters' as Margaret said. Then Margaret visited Australia, Mum went back to see Margaret again, and Margaret came here again. We all came to love Margaret and regard her as our aunt regardless
of the distance of the actual relationship and we grieve with all of her loved ones in
Wales.
We have a real hole in our family that will be hard to fill. I hope to get to Wales again
in2015 and was hoping against hope that Margaret would still be alive because each time I said goodbye it felt like saying goodbye to my mother all over again. We love you Margaret and cherish our memories of you. Go with God.

Margaret, you were a very dear friend to my Mother, Bette (nee James), and link for my generation to the extended family in Wales. One more visit with the family was not to be.
