Father William EllisROOKE (BILL)(RC Parish Priest at St. Lawrence, Byker and St. Vincent's, Walker) Peacefully in hospital on the 3rd October aged 73 years, Father Bill, son of the late Sid and Kathleen, brother to Pat, Sid, Tom and Elizabeth, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and dear friend to many. Father Bill will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, including the many communities he served across the North East and Africa with such love, humility and generosity. Father Bill will be received into St. Vincent's RC Church and Mass celebrated at 7pm on Tuesday October 15th. Requiem Mass to follow at noon on Wednesday 16th October at St. Mary's Cathedral, Newcastle. Refreshments afterwards at Tyneside Irish Centre. No flowers please, donations if desired will be shared among the many charities Bill supported. Donation boxes will be available at both St. Vincent's Church and St. Mary's Cathedral. Father Rooke married my husband and I almost 30 years ago at St Bedes Church in Stockton. It was a lovely ceremony, and Fr Bill was so calm, kind, thoughtful and supportive during the stressful run up to our wedding. He had a lovely kind soul and we were blessed to have him carry out our wedding ceremony, such a happy day full of warmth and love.
