JohnAINGEPassed away after a short illness on 5th September in Weymouth,. A small family funeral will be held on 23rd September at Cheltenham Crematorium Oak Chapel at 11.00 am Husband to Pamela (deceased 1959) and Edna (deceased 2018), father to Kerry and Jennifer and stepfather to Roger and Josephine. John was born and raised in Cheltenham, a trained mechanic; he did his national service in the RAF. He was always a motor racing enthusiast and was on the grid as a mechanic in 1950 Formula 1 races with Brian Shawe-Taylor's Team. He also went to the Isle of Man TT races in the same year. Later he became a mechanic with Ivor Bueb in Formula 500 and Formula 2 at Turks Motors in Cheltenham. After many visits to the TT, John moved to the Island in 1963 to marry Edna, his wife of 57 years. During his life, John offered his help and support to many people and charitable endeavours including Manx Mencap. In recognition, in 2011 he was honoured to be awarded Maundy Money by H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey. John will be remembered by those who knew him as a joyful and sociable person who always had time to 'stop for a chat' and a bit of a laugh. A Memorial Service is planned on the Island at a later date, any correspondence to J Jackson, 77a Fortuneswell, Portland, Dorset, DT5 1LY.
