I was extremely sad to hear the news that Lorna had passed away. I remember Lorna both as a pupil back in the nineties who was taught and coached by her and as a colleague and mentor who guided and supported me through my NQT year and beyond and she was a truly fantastic person to work with. She had a calm persona which kept others calm even during stressful moments such as Ofsted inspections where her wisdom, knowledge and insight kept others going. Her knowledge and understanding of teaching was second to none and I have personally gained a tremendous amount by working with and learning from her which I will always be grateful for. I truly believe that if there were more Lornas in education today, it’d be a better place for children, parents and teachers. Indeed she had all the qualities of a great teacher and leader and was looked upon by many in the Local Authority as an example to follow. She was a very modest person though and was very much there for others in the school community. As others have said, Lorna leaves a special legacy and has inspired generations of children to reach their full potential and perhaps even more importantly to be kind, caring and compassionate human beings. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her but her positive influence will continue to live on in the lives of the people she touched. Sincere condolences to Lorna’s family at this very sad time.
