Ivan,
It has been many years since we’ve been in touch but I often thought about my time at Kingsmead Hospital working with you.
Meeting yourself, Bridget, Dil and Mal was quite an experience as you all played a part in helping build up my life skills.
You taught me to play chess and we had some good challenging games in between doing the laundry, rubbish, meal trolleys, taking patients to Physio and back etc.
You loved your crossword puzzles and sometimes asking us for answers. Lol
I remember the cigarette shop in the Porters room and had quite a few staff popping in and out to make their purchases.
You and Dil went through a few cars in the couple of years I spent at Kingsmead. I especially remembered the hillman imp which was such a tiny car and you being over 6 foot struggled to get in and out.
My time at Kingsmead was a short but a memorable one.
Rest in peace, your forever thankful friend.
Steve Paul

I worked with Ivan at Kingsmead hospital for around 11 years but we weren’t just workmates we were very good friends. He was like a brother to me and his parents were kind to me at a difficult time in my life. Will never forget all the good times we had, especially “messing” about with cars. You’ll always be in my memories Ivan-rest in piece my good friend. Mr Dil.

I last saw Ivan in a care home suffering badly from dementia which was hard to take as I knew him when we grew up together in Corporation Street. I remember well us first smoking Hamlets in the woods over the road "borrowed" from his dad's stock and being thoroughly sick afterwards. Lots of love to my old mate. Mike Coles ♥️
