Thank you, Ron, for all you did for the Villa. You meant the world to us then, and always will. Those of us who are old enough have so many happy memories of watching your teams which give us at least something to smile about in these grim times.

Being in my late teens in the mid 70’s and already a Villa fan, Ron Saunders was a pivotal figure in my life. He is responsible for the love I feel for the club and at 62 years of age I still drive 70 miles each way for every home game. I recall as if they were yesterday those days and nights at Villa Park ... we were on a crest of a wave that felt like it would never end. I didn’t know how lucky we were to have him as our manager, I just knew that I was having the time of my life. Those days of Gidman, Rimmer, Mortimer, Cropley, Little, Deehan, Gray, Aitken ... oh my what a team we had ... ask Liverpool how good we were after that 5-1 thumping on a December night in 1976 on their way to becoming Division 1 and European Cup winners ... and responsible for all of that was the boss, Mr 110%. We didn’t care if the opposition scored first because we knew we’d score more.
Ron, you are my true footballing hero. Always will be. Rest in peace Boss.
