I have fond memories of Harold, an inspirational music teacher whose enthusiasm for his subject was truly infectious. He gave me (and many of my contemporaries, I am sure) a love of early choral and instrumental music which has never left me. God rest his soul.

We all have people in our lives who leave a lasting impression. For me, Mr Thompson was one of these people. I have so many lovely memories of him at Whitgift school. One of those memories is when he took a group of us to Durham. I can't remember if it was to perform the Mikado or put on a concert. He was always encouraging. His passion for music was infectious. He will always have a special place in my heart as I know he will in many others'.

Mr Harold Thompson my music teacher at the Technical School. I have Great memories of playing flute in the school orchestra.
I loved playing so much he allowed me to play in the school orchestra after I left school and started work. I am still playing my flute today 50 years on thanks to his passion and dedication to music along with his inspiration encouragement kindness and generosity.
I always kept in touch. His last message to me was “keep on playing" .
I most definitely will Mr Thompson Thanks to you.
A Great character Gone but will never be forgotten.

I will always remember Harold as a great friend to my father Brian Kent and as a family friend to us all. I particularly remember the fun and laughter we had in the orchestra pit when he was conducting the Silhouette shows .... sustained by polo mints! May he rest in peace. Hazel Tayler (Brian Kent's daughter)

HT along with Len Morter were my favourite teachers and left a lifetime lasting impression. I will never forget my wonderful days spent in the music block where we just sang and he played piano. He was so talented and I loved every minute of the school shows and being in the choir. Rest in peace Mr T, you were an amazing man, loved by all x
