My deepest sympathies to Mavis's family and friends - I have only just seen the funeral notice.
My family and I were next-door neighbours in Newcastle-under-lyme and knew the family very well. After we moved to Essex my parents remained in contact, and I still received Christmas cards and news from Mavis until recently. Now living in Suffolk I am currently having my piano tuned by someone who knew Neville, Roger and Mavis through the PTA with which they were so involved. My Welmar piano, bought reconditioned from them in the 70s is still a delight to play and will remain a link to them for many more years.

I’ve just heard the sad news about Mavis Tostevin. She was such a lovely lady. I didn’t know her well, but was always delighted to be in her company. Her smile and her lovely contralto singing voice! Her husband and later her son used to tune my pianos. Mavis had lots of interesting things to say about music and musicians, and had a gentle sense of humour and never made a fuss about anything. I miss her . . . I am grateful to Frederick Hewitt who passed the news on to me, and who played the organ at her funeral. I wish I could have played the cello for her. Rest In Peace, dear Mavis Tostevin.
