I’ve just heard the sad news about Mavis Tostevin. She was such a lovely lady. I didn’t know her well, but was always delighted to be in her company. Her smile and her lovely contralto singing voice! Her husband and later her son used to tune my pianos. Mavis had lots of interesting things to say about music and musicians, and had a gentle sense of humour and never made a fuss about anything. I miss her . . . I am grateful to Frederick Hewitt who passed the news on to me, and who played the organ at her funeral. I wish I could have played the cello for her. Rest In Peace, dear Mavis Tostevin.
