I first met Malcolm at the Burnage Baby Clinic in Manchester in 1935, I was 2 weeks older than him and throughout our 85 years of friendship I never let him forget it! We played together as infants, survived the war years, grew up together as teenagers with a love of music both of us learning to play the piano. We have kept in touch on birthdays and Christmas every year since then. I moved to Western Australia with my husband and children in 1969 about the same time Malcolm moved to Scotland. I last saw him in 1987 when we were on holiday in the U.K. and I spoke to him by phone on his birthday last year. I was 86 last Thursday Malcolm would have been 86 next Thursday. It saddens me to realize he is no longer with us and I send my condolences to Lizzie and his grandchildren.

I was so sorry to learn of Malcolm's passing today (9th March 2021). I knew Malcolm from his days in the Andersonian Library at Strathclyde University. I was the Chaplaincy Secretary and Malcolm came down for the Scottish Episcopal service in the Chapel on Thursdays. He also served on the Chaplaincy Advisory Group for a time too. Sympathies extended to his family.

I have known Malcolm for 31 years. We shared a love of music, mainly piano. On one occasion he came along to an organ rehearsal at a church I used to be organist of in Edinburgh and offered his advice and help. He was interested in my horological hobby in the field of collecting clocks and he sought my advice on his 2 longcase clocks on several occasions. For his 70th birthday, he asked me to look out for a suitable clock for him, with an owl theme and found one – a lovely French, brass-cased mantel clock with 3 owls at the top of the ornamental spire. We shared a love of routing around antiques shops and I loved sharing meals and wine in his dining hall and having a good laugh and blether.
I will miss him very much as he was a good and wise friend to me, offering advice when needed.
I felt privileged in being invited to the funeral service in St. Saviour’s church due to Covid restrictions.
Sharing a Christian faith means Malcolm is in a far better place.

I met my second cousin Malcolm for the first time on 1 March this year. He was a wonderful host to his second cousin from the colonies. So lucky to have met him. Maureen Allan
