ANNE MUSTOETributes were paid to Anne Mustoe, a Nottingham woman who cycled round the world twice.Mrs Mustoe, who was 76, died on 10 November, 2009, in a hospital Syria while on her latest adventure. She was born in Nottingham in 1933.She was originally from Lenton and had inspired travellers across the globe after she decided to give up teaching to cycle round the world at the age of 54. She had not been near a bike for more than 30 years. However, not content by completing her round-the-world ride from west to east, she decided to do it again from east to west. She then went on to cycle to many other remote and dangerous parts of the world. When she set off for her latest expedition in May, she had already covered more than 100,000 miles in 22 years. All of her travels were completed on a bike she named "Condor" which she was given by pupils at St Felix School in Southwold, Suffolk, where she was headmistress up until her retirement in 1987.She wrote many books about her travels which sold thousands of copies. She attended the former Mundella Grammar School in The Meadows and Nottingham High School, before going on to read Classics at Girton College in Cambridge.Former school friend Julia Hibbitt, said: "I feel strongly that her death should not go unnoticed as she was an outstanding local girl."She said the pair and other former schoolmates had been attending annual reunions at Mrs Mustoe's London flat.Mrs Mustoe married Nelson Edwin Mustoe, QC, in 1960. He died in 1976. She was survived by her three stepsons. One is a solo round-the-world yachtsman.

This wonderful woman! What she has achieved in her full life.Beyond words, beyond simple admiration. A total inspiration to all of us young or older. I was wrenched when i discovered she had died only today in June 2010...and am deeply saddened that i could not be at her memorial service in London.
I would dearly love to put flowers on her grave and i am wondering where this is?
I have read most of her books and the only thing that stopped me from shedding tears today was the discovery of the 2007 book on che guevara's trail. Getting that today!Anne lives on in her wonderful books.
God bless who ever reads this and god bless Annexxxx
