BarbaraBLACKBURNBarbara Blackburn, 83, died after a short stay in Blackburn Hospital on Thursday, July 22. She was born on Thursday, January 20, 1938 in Accrington to David and Eleanor Sutcliffe. She was married to the late Brian Blackburn and together they raised their late daughter, Kathryn. Barbara left school at 15 when she started work for the Prudential insurance company in Burnley. Twenty-two years later she moved to work for an independent insurance broker in Accrington, before working for 18 years as a doctor’s receptionist at Peel House Medical Centre. Retirement saw Barbara establish the Double Niners, a domino club which raised thousands of pounds for Cambridge Street Methodist Church. Cambridge Street will be the place where we can say our final goodbyes, with the funeral taking place at 12noon on Friday, August 6. This will be followed by a short committal service at Accrington Crematorium. Memorial donations can be made in Barbara’s name to the East Lancashire Hospice. Funeral director: Wolstenholme Funeral Service, Accrington.
