My fondest memory of Uncle Brad is when he asked me to make him some tea.

It was a simple task. Hot water + tea bag = tea. Easy. So I poured hot water into a mug and as I placed the tea bag inside, he immediately took the mug from me and dumped out the water. I was surprised, maybe even a little shocked. He then started to explain to me why he did what he did. I was upset, and felt like a scolded child at first. However, it was in that moment that he taught me how to make his definition of a "proper cup of tea". He taught me to boil the water first, letting the hot water sit in the cup to warm it up. He then told me to use a second batch of newly boiled water, which would actually be used for the tea.

For someone my age living in Canada, this may seem tedious or unnecessary, but funny enough, I'll never be able to look at tea the same away again. Over the last few months, I've become an avid tea drinker, and every time I make tea, I remember this moment. With every cup I make, I think of Uncle Brad and everything he's taught me, despite of the short amount of time we've spent together.

Thank you Uncle Brad for your wisdom and kindness. You will forever be missed.
