DanBURTONDan Burton, husband to Caroline and father to Christopher and Annabel, tragically died in a paramotoring accident in Scotland on 18th September 2021, aged 54, whilst supporting a flight around the coast of the UK to raise awareness about solutions to climate change. Dan’s funeral will take place at St. Margaret’s Church in Topsham (EX3 0HX) at 2pm on Friday 8th October – all friends and family, near and far, are welcome. There is limited parking in Topsham and the church has 4 disabled spaces and we recommend you leave enough time to find parking. The reception will take place at Topsham Rugby Club (EX3 0LY) from 3.15 and limited parking is available at the club. Bar will be open and tea and soft drinks provided. Family will join reception at 4pm following the cremation. Family flowers only. In memory of Dan you are very welcome to make a donation to either www.bite-back.com (a charity to protect sharks) or www.worldlandtrust.org (a charity to protect the world’s most biodiverse habitats). COVID restrictions have been lifted for funerals. To keep people safe, we recommend that guests take a lateral flow test at least 24 hours before the funeral. We recommend that masks are worn as you enter the church and at your discretion when seated. The church will be well ventilated and there are additional seats to the side if needed. Masks at the reception at your discretion as there will be a covered outside space available. If you would like to attend the funeral and / or reception, please confirm by emailing Funeral.Dan.Burton.rsvp@gmail.com to help us prepare. Please wear whatever feels comfortable. Dan was a pioneer in technical diving, photography, filming and paramotoring. He was an adventurer and a wonderful husband and father who lived by the motto ‘One Life, Live It’, an inspiration to us all. We love you Dan.

Saw the programme Johanna Lumney and the Human Swan that Dan was part of on ITV tonight. It was a lovely adventure for both Sasha and Dan, and so sad that he lost his life towards the end of the journey.
May he rest in peace in High in the Heavens.

All at Rix & Kay were saddened to hear of the loss of Dan, we had followed Dan & Sacha’s journey with great admiration and anticipation. Our chairman, Bruce Hayter, came to know Dan in August when they met in Bruce’s home town of Plymouth and shared stories about Dan’s university days and Bruce’s school days over a coffee. Our sincere condolences to Caroline, Christopher & Annabel and all of Dan’s family & friends. ‘Those we love are just a thought apart, for as long as there’s a memory they live on in our heart’.
