My inspiring art teacher! We used to ponder the meaning of his paintings and he took our teasing with patience and tolerance.

We are sorry that we were unable to get to the memorial service in St Albans, or St Albrans as Dave often used to call it. We were colleagues and friends of Dave at Harrow Land Registry in the 60s/70s. We also spent some alcohol fuelled evenings at Sutton Road. Dave and I listened to Mahler through headphones while Susan and Christine did their best to ignore us. He was a remarkable man. Alan and Susan Lawrence

David was great fun to study alongside at Wall Hall. I have a portrait of me in pencil he drew and some daft poems. Did I draw him at the same time? maybe. Glad to have known him.

A wonderful man, so funny and kind, we had such a connection, you told me about your life, your paintings and some hilarious stories, including when you went to Amsterdam and how you had hair like Jimmy Hendrix back in the day! I didn't know you long, but it was a privilege to care for you at Trefula. I will never forget you. Always in my heart. Nicola, (Newquay!)

David, Having spent a nomadic childhood I finally arrived at Harrow Weald County Grammar School in the late 50s and you were the first early teenage friend that I had. I fondly remember our cycle trips out to RAF Northholt to watch aeroplanes and also our trips to air shows. Shoreham sticks in my mind most as we decided to cross the runway just as a Spitfire was landing, nearly decapitating both of us. It was a pleasure to know you.

Many happy times swapping D90 tapes and enjoying general silliness. I owe him a great deal.

We remember David for the sincerity of his friendship, his generosity of spirit, our musical discussions - and our walks with him around the prehistoric sites in the Land's End Peninsula which meant so much to him. Raymond and Patricia Cox
