Just found about Steve via old colleagues from Media Services, who are all shocked & saddened by his passing, my condolences to his family

Steve was very much liked across the board, he always went that extra mile to get collegues & students the support they needed, never blamed the end user for problems or faults with tech but tried to understand why they were happening, because he wanted to know - a subject of many of our chats was seeing if the other had any thoughts on those issues

I suspect as time goes on we will see more ackowledgement from folk who Steve had helped out such as this one https://www.palaeocast.com/april-2020-announcements/

More importantly I found a friend in Steve, he was a very genuine person, having met whilst we were both temps in Estates we had then both ending up at Media Services, he would rarely, possibly never, turn down a coffee & natter whether it was computers, speakers, headphones or just general life & family, always spoke of his own family & always asked about my family too, we had kept in touch after his move to Physics & my own retirement

I will miss him greatly

Was really devastated to hear the news you have passed. You will be dearly missed in Physics. You were a close friend who I could always rely on. I will miss our chats, lunches and especially miss all your stories. I can't imagine what your family are going through, you spoke about them so often and I know how much you loved them. My thoughts go out to your family. I know how upset I am, so their grief must be so much worse. I feel like I know them so well already. Gutted I won't get the opportunity to say goodbye but you are in my thoughts and will be forever in my memories. RIP Steve, gone but never forgotten. Nicola xxx
