JillCOUGHMANJill Coughman, an artist & former art teacher. Sadly passed away peacefully at home, age 59, on the 8th April 2020, surrounded by her family. Such a beautiful & kind lady. Much loved mother to Sophie, sister to Yvonne & Sue, auntie to Hannah, Tom & Jess, great auntie to Ava & a wonderful friend to so many. She will be sadly missed by all her family & friends, but she will forever be in our thoughts & hearts. A private cremation for family members only, sadly due to current public health requirements. Any donations kindly accepted for St Luke's Hospice Plymouth, in memory of Jill, may be sent to Knapman family independent funeral directors, 20 Mannamead road, Plymouth. PL4 7AA. A special thank you to Jill's very close friends, who gave up so much time to be there for her, especially Hilary, Lizzie, Sharne, Becky, Mike, John, Pete & David. You were all so incredibly generous. Lastly, thank you to Nurse Sue & the team from the Hospice at home, & to Carolyn, for your listening skills & advice. You all touched our hearts.

Jill used to be my Art teacher - she was the first teacher I had met who genuinely cared for her students. Having struggled with school, she was the first person to show me kindness and treat me with respect and that’s something I’ll never forget. I’m so saddened to hear this news.

We’re so sad to learn Jill has passed. I have looked on line to find her artwork as we have lost touch. We worked with her on props for Opera North in the early nineties. She was so funny that I used to get face-ache laughing with her. Jill had an exhibition in The Calls, Leeds and I bought a self portrait of her. I read David Roundtree,s tribute and although I would never sell our painting I will try to send a photo to this tribute page. Jill is much missed. Nettie and Karl Graham

I’m so sad to read this news. I worked with Jill years ago at First Direct, a job to tide both of us over as we moved on to better things. A friend of mine bought two of her pieces of art. I couldn’t afford any at the time, but I always enjoyed them so much. (If anyone knows of her work for sale now, please do let me know.) More than anything, though, was how lovely a person she was - I was in awe.
