I've really struggled to write this poem and find the words to say,
As life is unfair and I have to say my goodbye's today.
I called your phone the other night,
For that split second I forgot that this nightmare is real,
I now can only now dream of a chat to steal.
I was eating my tea and thinking it was rather hot,
It made me think of you, you would always say waste not want not.. The good lord says.
I remember our walks up Newsome,
Up to Brownies we'd go,
You would always say werewolf’s are on the roofs,
Trying to make it make it fun,
I always believed you,
Because you were my number one,
We were always singing an Irish riddle,
You always made me giggle.
You always loved to see me and Siobhan dancing,
Laughing at us singing, playing and prancing.
On a Sunday it's off to Rugby we would all go,
You loved to watch your sons Craig and Chris,
You always loved watching them grow.
Although our Dad's not with us today,
I know he is proud of us all in every way.
Forget Gillette- they say a best a man can be,
They never met our dad aka papa G.
Everyone who met you felt your kindness, warmth and glow,
You were always so generous, the kindest man I know.
You were always the life of the party,
Not one to shy away from having a good time.
Like they say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,
You couldn't have got it more right when you made me.
You were the best grandad to Willow and Ivy,
Fun, playful and always had time for them,
They will always know how much you loved them and them you.
I will miss our late night calls,
I will miss how funny you are, most of the time unintentionally,
I will miss the way you'd pull your comb out of back pocket staring in the mirror and comb your hair,
I will miss us spending Christmas together,
I will miss us putting the world to rights over a few jars,
I will miss hearing you and Brendan talking about Leeds Utd.
I will miss my girls growing up without you,
I will even miss taking you and that suitcase of your's shopping
