Back in the 80's, Alex and I raced Stock Cars. I was the driver and Alex was the Mechanic. Alex Junior, Leanne and our children were toddlers. We had some great times, and many laughs.
Alex spent more time chatting and socialising with all the other drivers and families, than he did fixing the car! He was very popular with everyone, and we all looked forward to racing at Aycliffe and Hartlepool. The whole stock Car scene was all about families enjoying themselves, Alex being a key part of that joy.
He was hopeless at fitting a fiddly set of points to an engine, but boy, could he wield a sledge hammer to straighten a bent bumper!
Happy days, made all the happier when Alex was around.
He'll be badly missed.
