Since Mike and I met, I’ve loved hearing his many, many hilarious anecdotes about his dad, and I’ve lost count of the times I’ve asked him to “Tell that story about when your dad…” to our friends and acquaintances. Mike idolised his wise, kind, hilarious dad; the apple truly didn’t fall far from the tree either as he inherited John’s lightning-quick wit and resourceful mind - I only have to look around our own home, and at the old golf ball that’s been repurposed into a handle to turn on our faulty shower to know that!

John and Dot welcomed me into the family so warmly and have made me feel like I’ve always been part of it, and I’ll never forget John’s tears of joy when Mike and I first shared the news about our baby. I’m heartbroken that Freddie won’t continue to grow up with her wonderful Grandad who adored her, but John’s legacy will be kept alive in the stories we’ll tell her, of which there are surely enough for a lifetime. I’ll miss you so much John, thank you for everything. Vicky x

John could always make me smile and laugh with his light hearted approach to everyday things. "I'ye lad, is it right, is it right" he would chuckle. He was always there to help lending a hand when needed. John will live warmly in my heart forever.

John was a great bloke, his sense of humor was inspirational to me with his descriptions of situations, I first met John as I was pushing my moped home from meeting the gang at Coniston shops, probably run out of fuel, as I passed near his house he saw me and offered to chuck the bike in his van and give me a lift, thats how his nature was as I got to know him better we shared many laughs down at Yew St garage and at Mikes workshop, I will miss those chats,
