So sad to hear this. She was always so kind. For example when we were doing our practical cookery exam it was a really hot day and she went up to the shop at the top of the Rise to buy us all some squash. Love to all her family.

Words from a childhood friend:
I always admired her energy and all the interests and jobs she got involved with, like the WI, teaching cooking, or her top level skills in cake decorating. She would say to me "Well my dear I HAVE to be doing SOMETHING to keep me ticking".
I think she was probably happiest working in her garden, as on my rare visits to England, it was always such a treat to walk round the beautiful garden she had created and share her enthusiasm for growing things, not forgetting the adorable rabbit Bilbo hopping about.
There is a saying related to gardens, that is a fitting farewell tribute to her, since I am so far away in West Australia.
“Having a garden is like having a True and Loyal friend who you can visit at any time and such Friends are the flowers in our own Life's garden"
Barbara, like that garden was a True and Loyal Friend who I could visit at any time, no matter how many years had gone by.
Now, in remembering her, it is with Thanks and a gentle Smile for sharing those flowers in both of our Life's Gardens.
