I have such fond memories of John as my French teacher. My mam worked with Eleanor back in the 1970s so when I went to Washington school my parents were delighted that John would be my French teacher. Mr Hunter always met each of us with a friendly "Ca va?" I will never forget how his face lit up when I answered him back with the "Oui, CA va bien, merci" that my Dad had taught me before that lesson. Mr Hunter was so passionate about his job and really wanted the very best for each of us. He sensed I was eager to learn and really encouraged me. I remember his board with "proper preparation prevents poor performance" above it. I loved his story telling. When we were preparing for our GCSE he wrote us all a sort of newsletter packed with advice and an anecdote about his other passion (photography). On the day of my French oral exam I entered the room ashen faced as I'd forgotten the word for bike and the test was all about hiring one. He simply paused the casette, said 'velo' and continued as if nothing had happened. That same year I got a lovely birthday card for my 16th, all in French of course. I will remember him fondly for the rest of my life. Au revoir Monsieur Hunter with love, Emma (Mackley)

An amazing teacher who gave me such sound advice and guidance when he taught me. Always remembered with fondness and respect. Thoughts are with his family and friends.
