MaryLACEY (Evans)It is with great sadness that Mary Lacey, beloved widow of the late Peter Lacey and mother to Robert (deceased), Georgina, Michael, Richard and Justine. Grandmother to 21 and Great- Grandmother passed away on 13th April 2022. Mary was well known in the community for her work with the Pensioners Forum and as a poster girl for Direct Payments. She also wrote a book on the History of Devonport called Devonport The Phoenix Rises Again. Her funeral will be held at Weston Mill Crematorium on Friday 27th May 2022 at 1:15pm. Those who knew her are welcome to attend. Most will know Mary was an avid knitter. It is requested that something knitted be worn as a sign of respect and appreciation although not compulsory. In life, Mary was a colourful character, if you choose to celebrate that by wearing colourful clothes, please do. Family flowers only please but donations, if desired, may be made via retiring collection to the Devon and Cornwall Air Ambulance. All enquiries to: Co-op Funeralcare. 152 Albert Road, Devonport, Plymouth, PL2 1AQ TEL:01752 565102

It's now been 6+ months since you've gone and I still miss you. I so want to ring you up to chat. Carlos and I had hearts for dinner yesterday, in memory of you. We chatted about you cooking them, and how few people liked the idea of eating them. It was great to chat about you and your cooking which I know you didn't do often but I know you could cook. I've been going through your stuff too. Sorting through your photos and your knitting and craft bits and bobs. I'm hoping to send your knitting to a museum where I think.itll have its own place. It's a long job though. Love you loads, miss you constantly but talk to a photo of you all the time. Xxx

Condolences to all her family and friends, Mary was a light in my life after meeting her several years ago. Mary never complained and she adored everyone she met. -she contributed such a great deal to the community. Mary often spoke kindly of people and talked about Mavis and her dancing days and how she danced on Top of the Pops. Mary fought tooth and nail for residents, the Senior Citizen Forum, Direct payments, and raised funds for a variety of organisations, in addition to doing a great deal of other things. Regeneration in addition to all of the models she created. Mary served the community of Plymouth in such a significant capacity as a volunteer. Mary, her words of wisdom to younger generations, and her role as the voice of so many people will be sorely missed. Mary was also a veteran, just like her father, who had served in the Royal Navy for his entire life, and she had worked as a civil servant for Lambeth Council. Mary was recognised for the time and effort she put into helping local councillors and MPs, for which she received awards. The Plymouth Herald also acknowledged Mary's accomplishments. In addition to the fact that she organised Tea Dances on Plymouth Hoe. Mary was, without a doubt, an unsung hero in the community, and she deserved an OBE for all the work that she did. The older generations are forgotten, which is something that Mary would not want. Mary won’t be forgotten. On a personal scale there are too many memories we shared but each memory I have I’ll cherish. You’ll always hold a special place in my heart and home. May you now rest with Pete, Robert, Mavis, Dad and all your family in the heavenly realm. Such a wonderful honour to have known you Mary xxx
