Margaret,as she was known to us ,was a part of our household from the moment she moved into No4 Knighton Rd, so long ago I can’t remember when.
Much has been said of her astonishing achievements but also she was the best neighbour, stalwart friend and companion. She was there for all the important events in our lives and most of the rest as well .
Always busy,I remember all the projects she had on the go, the wonderful tapestry seats and craft work. Visiting no4 always required climbing over a pile of equipment in the hall waiting for the next activity, whether it was bee keeping, sailing, computing or gardening.
Sunday dinner at no2 was a regular feature when there was much discussion about how to tackle the crossword , Dad was all for across then down and Margaret preferred starting at the top left hand corner and working diagonally!
She always had her bag of knitting with her and I lost count of the times she would undo and reknit my pickle.
No room for more memories save one.
When my father Derek moved to Devon , we dismantled the greenhouse and parked the pieces in Margaret's garden .In no time at all a photograph arrived of the assembled and fully stocked greenhouse- she had done this all by herself , she would have been 81 then . What a remarkable lady !
