EugeneO’CONNOREugene OCONNOR Mr Eugene Paul Barnes O’Connor, of Bacup, passed away on Monday, October 11, aged 77. Eugene was a devoted family man and will be sadly missed by his wife Patricia and four daughters Sarah, Hilary, Sinead and Rachael, and many more people besides. Eugene was born in Sligo, Ireland but moved to the Rossendale Valley as a young boy where he attended St Joseph’s School in Stacksteads, living with his sisters Stella and Hilary, and his mum and dad Sarah and Joseph O’Connor. As a young man Eugene started work in car sales for Skippers in Burnley before moving on to be proprietor of Glen Service Station, Stacksteads. He was also an active member of Stacksteads Band, Bacup, and Pleasington Golf Club and Bacup Cricket Club. For those wishing to attend, the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 27 at 12.15pm at St Joseph’s and St Peter’s Newchurch, followed by cremation in Burnley at 1.45pm. The family would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for all the support they have received in this difficult time - it’s been wonderful to see how many people loved and cared about him. Family flowers only; for anyone who wishes to donate there will be an opportunity to do this to Stacksteads Band on the day of the funeral.
