Mags
When they ask
How do you remember your mother?
How about the sliced white
turned out of the bag and buttered and filled
If there was banana I’d be thrilled
Back in the bag for the journey
Just after Llanfair Pwll Dad would say
Have you got something to eat?
Or after the first swim
Up the beach to the rocks
Starving
Brechdan banana!
Home from school there she was
Snatching time on the sun lounger
How come she started turning brown
at the first hint of sun?
Brown
Brown gravy on the Sunday roasts
Brown dandelion and burdock from the Corona man
Are they new shoes?
I’ve had them for months she’d say
Having hidden them away
at the bottom of the wardrobe
Just so she wasn’t telling fibs
Mags! You hated that name
Always wanted to be a Margaret
But you know
Mags is held close to our hearts
Where the laughter is
Mags is best
