I've just come across this notice. I think you are the same Ray who was my first boss back in Vernons Pools way back in 1980! Happy memories of a real gentleman - someone who helped shape who I am and someone I truly respected. RIP old friend.

Always enjoyed our little chats in the sauna! Your optimism, determination and continued good humour in the face of a terrible disease was an inspiration to us all. You will be very sorely missed.

Ray, there is an emptiness every morning at the gym. Who is going to get out our kit and reserve the best specs in the classes? And your bike is still there in the corner.... Miss you mate. I admired your incredible resiliance - the gym was a place that gave you comfort even towards the end when everything you tried to do was so painful for you. Yes, you were an inspiration to us all.

Sorry we couldn't have had more time together to share a friendship which started at Dingle Vale School in the early 1960's. Meeting up after a 35 year gap was really great and I miss the after the match banter with you in the 'Dizzy' over a pint of Cain's Mild. There were so many more memories, about the old days at Dingle Vale, that we still had to share. So sad, a great loss. RIP John Robson

A tribute from Tony Reid

43 years of stupid jokes, of debates and arguments that no one ever won, of advice given and taken, of friendship through good times and bad. Rest in peace shakey. Tony & Marie

You were a gentleman and a fighter, always at the gym, you put us to shame when we moaned about our aching muscles. Your gym buddies will always remember you. Angela (Greens)

It is very sad to watch someone who was as strong and fit as you gradually slip away from us over a long period of time, after putting up such a fight against an awful disease. I have known you for 43 years, you were the best man at my wedding, my dear friend and confidant,,,,,Barbara and i will miss you dearly,,,,but you will always remain close to our hearts ..
