Kathryn MaryTHOMAS (nee Davies)Sadly on May 21 2022 Kathryn Thomas, aged 78, passed away at Ysbyty Bryn Beryl surrounded by her family. Kathryn was born in Tredegar and was the cherished daughter of the late Reverend Emrys Davies, minister of Saron Chapel and of Mrs Marie Davies B.A. headmistress and founder member of Tredegar History Society. Kathryn won a place to attend Lewis Girls' School, Hengoed , and attended Cardiff University where she studied for her degree in English and Welsh and received the following letters after her name BA,Dip.Ed,FRSA She also won many singing competitions with much acclaim for her distinctive soprano voice. Kathryn was also thrilled to win a scholarship to attend La Scala, Milan but sadly was unable to accept the offer. Kathryn, however, won many local Eisteddfodau and performed regularly as a soloist. As a respected and much loved English teacher, her pupils kept in close touch through all the years and still called her Mrs T. She taught in Rhymney, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Crymych and Tregaron. Later she taught in Llandysul as well as passing her driving test in her sixties. Kathryn was the beloved wife of the late Reverend Nennog Thomas and the much loved mother of Helen, Rhiannon and Mari Gwent and mother-in-law to Jim, Martin and Jack. She was also the very proud grandmother of Sara, Llinos, James, Alaw, Jack, Katie, David and Daniel. She was also a loving great grandmother to her four "greats" Keira, Bella, Lori and Awen. Kathryn was a very much loved loyal friend to Liz and Bill Fillery and to Mollie James. The funeral took place at Capel Brynrhiwgaled Pentre'r Bryn, New Quay, Ceredigion on May 28th 2022. The family would like to thank the Reverend Bill Fillery and the Funeral Directors Gwilym C. Price Sons and Daughters, kind neighbours and friends of Pentre'r Bryn, and for all the kindness shown at this sad time. A donation of £545 was given to Diabetes UK in her memory.
