Graeme DouglasVRACSuddenly, but peacefully passed away at Worcestershire Royal Hospital on Sunday, 3rd January 2021. He was taken from us far too soon and our world has been rocked by his passing; we will never be the same. Graeme will be deeply missed by his partner and best friend, Naomi, with whom he lived in Worcester these past 14 years; adored father of James, Allison, Martin & Gareth; cherished by his siblings, Pauline, Shona, Jayne and Val; considered quite amusing by his grandchildren, Alex, Lisyan, Kirsty, and Katie. Graeme was born 3rd April 1945, in St Helier on the Channel Island of Jersey, his family line originating from Saint-Germain-le-Gaillard, Normandy, France. At 16, he apprenticed to become a carpenter and was renowned for his skilful hands. His best friend was Joe H of Coelbren, who sadly passed away in June 2020, with whom he worked on a huge number of building sites and downed just as many pints. Performer of some of the most groan-inducing Dad jokes in Western Civilisation; hopeless fan of Swansea City FC, and who breathlessly watched their rise/fall/rise. He was a player/lover of snooker; once proud owner of a Triumph Spitfire; an outstanding carpenter, whose later wood crafts we all were pleased to own; a keen debater of modern cinema; a one-time cigar smoker (who wisely quit); an avid cider drinker (Woodpecker, not Strongbow, if you please); who against strong advice wore white socks with business shoes well into the 1990s, signifying his keen sense of fashion; loved the music of John Miles, the Beatles, various classical music, a bit of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds; adored the Spanish weather of Fuengirola when he and Naomi wintered there. We perhaps all remember him best for his inimitable laugh, something that gave us all great joy. He really didn't like cheese. Graeme was a man of singular humour. He was a kind, gentle, warm, and generous man, close to his family and friends, delightful to spend time with, well read, and always with an abundance of pithy remarks. His company was sought and enjoyed by those that knew him, his reputation widely known and respected. His integrity and character shared equal standing. His passage through life was far from effortless, yet he did so with verve and spirit. He was much admired and appreciated by all who knew him. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, 4th February 2021, at 4pm at Llanelli Crematorium. Due to current restrictions the funeral service will be invitation-only. Graeme requested donations to the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers. His wish for ashes to be scattered at Rhossili Bay will be deferred until such time as the pandemic is over and family and friends can safely gather.
