I was shocked and grieved to hear of Keith's death and extend my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Doreen and the the family. I owe Keith a lot from when I started in Adour Performance at RR Derby in 1974. I was transferred from a lower level job when the office could not recruit from outside RR. I had always wanted to work in the PO but they rejected me when I finished my apprenticeship in 1970. I did not hit the ground running when I joined the PO and I was overawed by the Academic and Intellectual talent indeed many of the engineers were ex public school and the use of Latin in reports/memos was not uncommon I remember particularly being reminded by the management (may be as it was was felt I was a bit working class) that it was required to wear full evening dress at the PO Dinner and Dance!
As I far as I can tell my supervisor wanted to reject me during the probationary period and my section leader appeared to have lost interest in me me so I became for a while Keith's Technical Assistant and he did a great deal to help/train and mentor me as did all my subsequent managers during my 35+ years working in the Performance Function. During most of this time I remained mates with Keith and his lovely wife Doreen. The were the life and soul of any social event and it was a privilege to know them. Since I have moved to Rugeley I believe I have have only seen Keith once which I greatly regret I also regret I shall not be able to attend the farewell tomorrow at Findern.
