She was born & raised in Tenby, a town she loved all her life, the daughter of Henry James (Harry) Williams & Eleanor (Jenkins), of Greenhill Avenue, & the brother of Neville. She attended Greenhill School & the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, where she studied history, one of her life-long interests, & acted in many amateur productions. She was a much-loved & respected history teacher at Tapton House, Chesterfield, & both Cathays High School in Cardiff, & Cardiff High School, where she became senior mistress. After her retirement Gaynor enjoyed helping out as a supply teacher at St Teilo's Church in Wales High School. She was President & life member of the Cardiff Association of the National Union of Teachers, & for 20 years a very active member of the Canton Branch of the Labour Party, & the Cardiff West Constituency Office, serving as a delegate to the party's National Conferences. She assisted MP Kevin Brennan with his fortnightly surgeries. She was a member of the Wales Assembly of Women, & volunteered at the National Museum of Wales. Gaynor loved animals - especially her pet cats, of which there were many, of various temperaments - & was a member of the local branch of the RSPB team. She is mourned by her nieces Janet & Rosemary, close friends Ceri, Jill & Anna, & her many friends & former colleagues in Cardiff & Tenby.
