Born in Ynysybwl, graduate of Exeter University, taught English in Nottingham and Lampeter before joining NUT Cymru, then speechwriter and Special Advisor at the Welsh Assembly. A devoted Cardiff City supporter, he will be missed by many. Private funeral, donation in his memory to Hijinx Theatre www.hijinx.org.uk/donate

I was lucky enough to work for Rhys in the English Department at Lampeter in 1977, while on leave from New Zealand. Rhys, you were an inspirational larger than life Head of Department!

Rhys would have been amused my last comment as it made no sense perhaps it was moderated! So here's to the memory of a great schoolfriend and enjoyable encounters over the years and a few tales I shall recount in the coming years in your memory.

Fond memories of Rhys and Eirian having a drink at the Cwmann Tafarn, putting the world to rights. A highly intelligent man, bursting full of the joys of communication. He even helped Eirian write his speech for his daughter's wedding.
