Eric JamesASTINMr Eric James Astin, of Barnard Close, Oswaldtwistle, passed away peacefully in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Thursday, May 20, aged 86. Devoted and beloved husband to Janet, dearly loved dad to Andrew and Carol, father-in-law to Philip and Joy, cherished grandad to Daniel, Lauren, Ann and Adam, and loving great-grandad to Jack, Rosie, Leon, Terence, Lavinia, Charlie, and Olivia. Eric was born and grew up in Burnley, and after leaving school was employed as a Metallurgist at English Electric Company in Clayton-le-Moors, which later became GEC. After spending his working life at GEC, Eric retired from his role as Chief Metallurgist and Head of Laboratory at the age of 59. Eric then enjoyed many holidays with his wife Janey, touring Scotland and the Scottish Isles in their caravan, and in recent years spending most of each year at their caravan in Cumbria. Eric was a clever man who was well liked and respected by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Eric will be sadly missed but very fondly remembered by his family and numerous close friends. The funeral took place at Accrington Crematorium Chapel on Friday, June 4. Donations if desired to East Lancs Hospice, c/o funeral director.
