Kate JoanneATKINS (Whitelam)Whitelam Kate Atkins, aged 49, sadly passed away on the 5th March 2021, in Lincoln. She was born to Melvyn and June Whitelam of Boston on the 31st January 1972. Educated at Boston High School, Kate received a BA Hons degree in English at Brunel University. Following a successful career in London within the recruitment sector Kate continued her career in Australia living in Sydney for three years. On returning to Boston in 2004 Kate ventured to Borneo working with young people for the charity Raleigh International. Kate met her husband, Sam, in 2006 marrying in 2009 at Newstead Abbey, Nottinghamshire. They welcomed their son, William, in July 2010. Retraining as a teacher in 2015 Kate went on to lecture at colleges and universities specialising in support for young people with additional educational needs. Kate completed her MA in dyslexia specialism in 2018 and was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award in the same year. Along with two education professionals she established a successful business in late 2018, Higher Education Dyslexia Specialists (HEDS), supporting young people in higher education settings which continues to this day. Kate was an avid traveller and scholar visiting countries around the world and immersed herself in new cultures and experiences whenever she could. Kate is survived by her husband and son, Sam and William, parents Mel and June Whitelam, her sister and brother-in-law Debbie & Tim Wilkinson, nieces Ellie and Laura Wilkinson, Zara Atkins and nephew Jayden Atkins. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to St Barnabas Hospice, Lincoln.
