MaryBARCROFTMrs Mary Veronica Barcroft - née Hart - known as Mollie, died on Sunday, July 25, aged 99. Formerly of Grange Crescent, Rawtenstall, Mollie had made her home in Hill View Care Home, Rawtenstall, for the past 21 months. Born in Golborne, Wigan, Mollie lived in various towns including Blackpool and Bolton. She met her late husband Clifford whilst working as a clerk at David Whitehead and Sons in Rawtenstall, living in Crawshawbooth at the time. Once married she became a full-time housewife. Mollie’s interests included genealogy, reading, knitting and embroidery/tapestry. She had many pictures on display over the years at the Whitaker Museum exhibitions. She was an avid letter writer and had many pen friends around the world which resulted in visits to Mollie and vice-versa. She was a member of the local PDSA and was involved in many fundraising events. She enjoyed travelling to India and Pakistan with Clifford on his business trips as a yarn agent as well as visiting family in Canada and Australia. Wife of the late Clifford for 63 years, Mollie leaves children Valerie, Christopher, Pamela, Shirley, Veronica, and Gerard, together with grandchildren Paul, Jonathan, Rebecca, Adrian, Robert, Ashley, Sophie, Patrick and Saul, and great-grandchildren Charlie, Morgan, Ellis and Osian. She was also mother of the late Catherine and Sylvia. She leaves daughter and son-in-law Jill and Graeme, and nephews and nieces. An evening reception was held on Wednesday, August 4, at St James the Less RC Church, followed by a Requiem Mass due to be held at 12noon on Thursday, August 5, conducted by Fr. Anthony McBride, before interment at Rawtenstall Cemetery. Family flowers only, however donations may be made if desired to Rossendale Hospice and Save the Children.
